The Brief

Lee Valley White Water Centre is a white-water slalom centre, that was constructed to host the canoe slalom events of the 2012 Summer Olympics. This award-winning artificial white water canoe course was a major multi-disciplinary engineering project. The centre hosted the Canoe Slalom competition during the London 2012 Olympics Games. The site accommodated around 12,000 spectators in temporary stands. The Lee Valley White Water centre was designed with sustainability in mind and has become a major leisure attraction in Hertfordshire.

The Task

Working alongside the development team at Lee Valley, Vision XS conducted an assessment of venue needs and legacy usage for the White Water Centre and a market and competitive appraisal for the new build venue, including projections of event days and normal usage days, financial viability analysis and business plan.

The Results

Vision XS assessed the business potential of the operation, which resulted in some changes to the operational plan. We worked with the developer to generate a strategy to facilitate the integration of the sport facilities, with entertainment and events and to promote greater access for local communities.
